25 of My Favorite Things

Just a few days until I turn 25 and so I thought that I'd give you all a list of 25 of my favorite things, in no particular order :)

1. Books
(Pretty much everything book related, book stores, libraries...)
2. Notebooks.
I buy way too many of them, and I rarely finish them, because each new one has so many possibilities and then once I've written in it I feel like I've ruined all that potential.
3. Pens.
Especially Pentel Energel pens. And the R.S.V.P. pens. Plus anything that sparkles. I like sparkles.
4. In fact, sparkles should make the list. Sparkles.
I know pretty much everyone hates sparkles (well most boys), but I'm pretty grateful that when I told the Captain that sparkles were part of the deal and that if he hated them he'd have to leave that he didn't dump me then and there.
5. Small things.
This one is probably weird, but I think it's part of always wanted to be small, I always wanted to be tiny, life is some kind of cruel joke that I ended up 5' 9". But my laptop is tiny and I pretty much love it.

6. Breakfast.
But only at breakfast, or if we're eating out. You can't have breakfast for dinner at home. It's just wrong.
7. Change.
Like of the metal variety. When I was a kid I wanted to take my 20$ that I got for my birthday and get it all in quarters because it makes me feel richer to have change. I would rather break a dollar than spend my change.
8. Purses.
Ever since I was kid I spent pretty much all my allowance on purses. It's a thing. I'm a bag kind of girl.
9. Drive In movies.
You've got to bring home made popcorn and lots of pillows and blankets :)
10. Chapstick
This is probably more of an addiction than a favorite thing, but I do have my favorite kind. Chapstick brand with moisturizer. I do not understand the people who like carmex. For seriously.

11. Running.
It's odd and sometimes it's really hard, but I really love it.

12. Pool
As in billiards. A friend of mine and I played for literally at least 2 hours every day in college and it is the best.

13. Hiking.
I used to hate hiking until I got in good enough shape that I didn't feel like I was dying. Now it is the best!

14. Handlettering
I'm still not very good at it, but it is so much fun. If you want to do it, you should try it :)
15. Poetry
This probably falls under books, but I also love writing it.
16. Photography
My whole family has been into photography since forever, but I'm starting to really enjoy it and I've started following a ton of photography accounts on instagram.
17. Cologne
A man who smells good... there are no words

18. Adventure
I love just going and not knowing what's going to happen.
19. Blogging
This is one of my very favorite things
20. Fashion
I do not always wear the most fashionable things, and usually spend all of my clothing money on purses, but I would really seriously get into fashion if I had money and the self control not to spend it all on bags ha ha
21. Instagram
It is probably my most favorite social network.
22. Wax seals, letters, and packages in the mail
They're my favorite kind of present because no one has to awkwardly watch you open them.

23. Food
I love cooking and eating and I definitely love the food network.

24. Temples
They're just so pretty and awesome and I just love going every week.

25. The Ocean
If I could go to the ocean every day, I don't know that I would ever forget it or take it for granted.

Ok, I'm totally going to cheat and be cheesy and add a number 26. It kind of counts because this will be my 26th year of life.
26. The Captain

If you couldn't tell from reading my blog, he is my very favorite thing. The end.

What are some of your favorite things? There are a lot of things that I didn't put on the list. That deserved to make it, but maybe next year ;)

Monday Moments

Before we get to the moments of last week I thought I would just let you all know... My birthday is this Saturday! And I was thinking about making myself birthday cake pancakes in celebration, but obviously I didn't want to make them on the actual day so I was wondering how long pancake batter can last in the fridge. Overnight ok? Anyone know?
Apparently I was worrying about this so much that I dreamt about said pancakes last night ha ha. They were red velvet in my dream (which is weird because I was totally thinking funfetti when I was planning it).

We got this new granola and I am basically obsessed, besides the fact that it has coconut in it and I have to pick it out. It's ok, you can judge me for that.

The Captain and I were invited to a Mardi Gras murder mystery dinner and it was SO much fun! I am not the best actress or anything, but I still had a blast playing Elise the Maid. Also I didn't kill anyone and actually voted for the correct killer. Just sayin' it was a great night.

This lovely lady came into the state for a few days and I was lucky enough to be able to attend the temple with her. She has been my best friend for over 10 years now and I love that even when we are states apart, we still stay best friends.

The Captain and I at the Twilight Concert Series this week. Sponsor lounge privileges are the best. Even the bathrooms are better.

24th of July Firework fun :) Also, I had no idea that some people referred to Pioneer Day as Pie 'n' beer day until I was at a party. Pie and Root beer floats are totally happening next year.

You may have already seen this picture on instagram, but it had to go in here regardless. My kind little sister took the pictures for me and they will be up on the blog this Saturday!

Hope that you all had a great week and if you live in Utah, a great 24th of July! I'm currently working on a list of things to do when I'm 25, so if you have any suggestions, let me know!

The 5 Minute Prayer

I have seriously been the worst at blogging lately. I can't tell you the number of Sundays I've been planning to post this. Probably as many as the number of Sundays that I haven't posted.

Anyway, I wanted to post about this.
This year I made a goal to pray every morning and every night. I haven't been perfect at it, but one of the reasons that I made the goal was because I have always felt like I was a bad Pray-er. Ha ha, I don't even know if that's a word.
I always felt like I could have a better relationship with God if I was better at praying, but I wasn't sure how to do that. And it's so easy for me to just say the same old things.
So as I was trying to think of ways to fix this I thought about how in college I would say my prayers at night and my roommate was always praying so much longer than me, and I couldn't figure out how she could pray for so long.
So I wondered what would happen if I set a time.
So I set a timer on my phone for 5 minutes and started praying. And for the first little bit of it, I said the same old things that I normally said, but after that the timer still hadn't gone off. And I was forced to really talk to God, tell Him about what I was thinking and feeling. It forced me to get past the surface level things and really think about what I was saying.
I don't set a timer every time or anything now, but any time I feel like I'm not really connecting with God, or when I feel like I'm just becoming repetitious, I set a timer for 5 minutes and pray. And so far it has been a real blessing for me.

How do you make sure that you connect? What have you found that works for you?

Birthday Wish List

My birthday is in a week, and I thought that this year I would actually make a wish list. Making a list always makes me feel selfish, but I did it anyway.

3. New purse (I love bags way too much, and I think 3 is my favorite, in turquoise)
1 2 3
4. Sunglasses
5. New mascara
6. Hand Lettering pens (Prisma Color Markers are good I hear)
8. certificate for Imagination Place (I just want to try one class)
9. Running head phones
10. New sweatpants
11. New skinny jeans
12. Books
13. New Work out clothes
14. Perfume! I haven't had any perfume in a long time.
15. Leather Jacket
Plus pretty much anything off my Just my Style board

Pretty much I'm proud of myself for making a list this year, better late than never ;)

Monday Moments

Unfortunately I have no pictures as proof, but, this morning my Mom woke me up to see the beautiful sunrise and rainbow. Seriously, there was a beautiful rainbow this morning around 6:30 AM. It was pretty much gone by the time I went to get my phone to take a picture of it :)

Finally found the best use for the playhouse :)

This is what I call the color rule. It seems to happen all the time in Pool, and sometimes in  while driving. We never seem to plan it, but the same colors end up together and left on the table at the end of the day.

This is from the Twilight Concert Series. Because the Captain is over the PR for it, we got to go into the press pit at the front of the stage and take pictures. I felt super cool, and probably like most people would hate me for being up there. It was pretty awesome though, good music and the sunset wasn't bad either ;)

I got to hang out with Smiles on Saturday. :) I'm so glad that we got to see each other, especially since our schedules are so busy all the time.

Sunday dinner that my Mom made. Those tomatoes are from our garden and they were probably the best part of the whole meal. Everything was so good! Also we didn't have enough plates, so... I graciously took the princess plate. And we didn't have enough cups either...

Sunday night walks are the best :)

How was your week? All geared up for the 24th (or as I've been told, it's called the Mormon Mardi gras, I'm all for making beignets!)? I hope that you all have a fantastic Monday, and hey, if the sunrise is great, wake somebody up, they won't be mad :)

Monday Moments

Sometimes the week just starts off busy. Yesterday I was helping out the Captain with something and I of course didn't get Monday Moments done before I left. Mostly because I didn't plan well, not because I didn't actually have the time to get it done beforehand.

Soleil was a very sleepy girl this week :)

The Captain had his first Lani's experience and from what I hear it's just as good as Hawaii's (according to him. I've never actually been to Hawaii, but I do know that Lani's snow cones are the best that I've ever had!)

These are the books that I read last week, The Host and Uglies. Also they are both books that I got at the DI. I was pretty pleased at the selection! Also, every time I read The Host I need Cheetos. It's a thing. I'm thinking of making a list of the things that books make me crave. Does this happen to anyone else?

Found out that I get to be an Auntie again! :) I noticed this Little Man's shirt not long after he got to my house, but I wasn't sure if it was legit! In case you were wondering, it was totally legit :)

This was amazing. Such a good night! You can't really go wrong with Leatherbys cheese fries and that cake batter shake was WAY better than I was expecting :)

Oquirrp Mountain Temple! It was my first time inside (besides the open house) and my first time going alone to do a Session! It was absolutely beautiful!

She and I are the same person and she's getting married... So happy for her! If you want to read her love story, you can here :)

I actually went running 3 times last week and I'm pretty sure that each time I went I broke my record for fastest mile. I was kind of proud even if I can only run about a mile straight...

Alice Springs Chicken from Outback Steakhouse! I won't lie, it's amazing, but I also make it better ;)

Because sometimes you have to take a selfie when you wake up.

How was your week? Any crazy adventures? Apparently I took everything in groups this last week even though it was all chronological. I hope you all have another great week!

Monday Moments

Good morning everyone! :) I hope that you all had a great 4th of July weekend! I did, but I didn't really do anything super Patriotic. Unless you count hiking as patriotic :) This last week was kind of eventful, on Friday was the Captains and My 6th month mark for dating and also that day was a BBQ! But anyway, on to the adventures!

The test run then final product. In case you were wondering, "In Deep Smit" is a phrase that The Captain explained to me as the point when you are smitten to the point of trouble if things don't work out ;)

Our free Ikea feast after looking for Narnia in all the wardrobes (those fries were AMAZING, and the pumpkin cupcake :) )

Apparently my sister's boyfriend is a couch artist.

Because sometimes you just have to see how the dog likes the slip n slide

So that was our Hike on the White Pines trail (I promise that I cut out a lot... even though it doesn't seem like it). Seriously one of the most beautiful hikes I have ever been on. All the flowers were in bloom! Although if you go, I HIGHLY suggest bug spray. We were both attacked by flies for a lot of the way and both of us got a bug bite. Also, I suggest bringing more than fruit snacks along with you. While we did bring water, we were both pretty hungry by the time we turned around. And no, we didn't make it to the lake, but it was well worth the views anyway!

Also got to cross making Creme Brûlée off my bucket list! It was super delicious, the Captain and I are pro.

Sunday we went for a walk and found this guy in the middle of the road... so of course we named him Jim. We took him back to my house and then set him free in a nearby pond!

Well, I think that is officially the most photos I have ever put in a Monday moments! Also first home videos, hope you enjoyed! Let me know what you did on your weekend in the comments (I know that the comments is sometimes lame, you can always comment on Facebook!) Thank you all for reading! Have a great week!
