anchored in light

A lifestyle blog about finding light in every avenue of life

Thursday, March 31, 2016

Hey everyone it's Thursday again :) I wrote this just after watching Doctor Who. Specifically the The Rings of Akhaten, season 7 episode 7 :)

We are stardust
Snowflakes of existence
Impossibilities wrapped in skin
Bursting in light
We go out in flashes
Live in moments
Leaving endless songs
Imprints on the windows
Etches in history

Monday Moments

Hey there everyone! It's Monday again and the last day of my Spring Break, and yes it's snowing on my spring break.
I learned that spring break isn't so great when your husband has to work. Although any day without work is nice! I've managed to run 3 times since Spring Break started! Getting back to running has been good. Although I'm thinking that to work it into my daily routine I'll have to start getting up an hour earlier...
Anyway :)

Wise words from one of my favorite TV shows :)

My personal motto, like many of things, I'm not so good at always following these things.

Date night last Monday. I am a sucker for bottomless fries and buffalo chicken :)

I'm kind of in love with the buds and all the raindrops hanging off of them.

Sometimes when I'm working on something I get terrified that I'm going to ruin it, so I take a picture of it when it's partially done but not yet ruined, just in case

This little bird was practice. A couple NaNoWriMos ago I wrote a book with a main character who was an artist and she painted this picture of a bird inside a rib cage, because her heart was always fluttering around her chest. Since then I've wanted to paint it, so he was a practice, but I ended up really liking him. Too bad I did him on scrap paper!

The blonde joke :) We don't get together often anymore, even over FaceTime, but we got to this last week and I love these girls so much!

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you had a great Easter! How are you celebrating Spring?

Hallelujah has always been such a beautiful word in my mind. From the Hallelujah chorus to Madeline L' Engle talking about the joy on Grandfather's face when he says the word in my favorite book, A Ring of Endless Light. It's a word that seems special. One that we don't often say, but that we should maybe say more.

But it's something that I am grateful and proud to say this Easter. The hope and joy that it brings to me... are indescribable. The feeling that this is not the end, that there is something greater than this and greater than me has always lived deep in me. Knowing that I will be able to see my grandfathers again, all three of them. The feeling that sometimes they are there.

And all because of one man, I say, Hallelujah

Monday Moments

Another Monday. Is Daylight Saving still kicking anyone else in the butt? Because getting up in the morning is SO hard lately! I can't wait until it's light when I wake up again!

So I took almost no pictures this last week. Well I took some supremely unflattering pictures of myself with hives, but I decided to spare you all of that. They showed up to party last Wednesday night and are *almost* gone now!

Which is also partially why I have no pictures for you guys. I promise I'll do better! :)

Yesterday The Captain and I decided to burn some stuff. Really the Captain would burn stuff every day if he could, but we had a good time watching the sunset and the flames. Mostly he worked with the fire while I sat with Soleil (my pomeranian) on my lap. It made me excited for summer and camping and hiking. We're officially into Spring and I can't wait for the flowers to start popping up and the trees to start blossoming!

Well I will try to be more exciting this week and actually post stuff ;)

Thanks for reading! I hope you had a great week that was hive free ;)

Monday Moments

Happy Pi(e) day!
Or, bowling ball day :)

So I didn't take very many pictures this last week. I thought about taking pictures several times, but I decided since I didn't really eat anywhere new or anything that it wasn't really picture worthy...

I did go on a run last week for the third time since I've been married (totally rocking my 25 miles a month goal... not). It was HARD. I was using the Couch to 10K app and it kicked my trash. I seriously need to get in shape! I'm sure being sick and recovering from that for the last two weeks didn't help either. But I was glad to get out there.
Anyone else working on being healthier?

In other news I did make us pancakes for Pancake day last week! No I have not yet made a pie for today yet.

And I started a new instagram for my watercolor and hand lettering adventures
if you'd like to follow along ;)

And I've recently been reading a lot. Here are some of my favorites of late:

And of course a few of my adorable nephew :)

Short and sweet today! Thanks for dropping by, don't forget to enter my giveaway! I'll be announcing the winner on the blog on Wednesday! :)

10 Talks to Re-Read Before General Conference

I know that I fell down on the job with this post last conference, and I almost did this time too. In fact, part of the reason I announced it last Sunday was so I would be sure to do it this Sunday.

Anyway, on to the talks!

1. A Summer with Great Aunt Rose -Pres. Uchtdorf
I liked this one because he talks about how we can be happy, no matter our circumstance.

2. It Works Wonderfully -Pres. Uchtdorf
Because sometimes the Gospel seems hard, and it shouldn't be.

3. God is at the Helm -Elder M. Russell Ballard
I liked this one because I feel like there has been a lot of unrest about the church and the leaders of the Church. I feel like it's important to remember that God is at the helm.

4. What Lack I Yet? -Elder Larry R. Lawrence
This one was really good for me because I am always trying to make new goals and improve.

5. The Pleasing Word of God -Elder Francisco J. Vinas
This talk was full of hope and Joy in the Atonement :)

6. Shipshape and Bristol Fashion: Be Temple Worthy- in Good Times and Bad Times -Elder Quentin L. Cook
I chose this one because it's something I am always trying to remember. I want to always remember where my priorities lie and what is most important. Going to the temple has been a huge blessing in my life and I don't ever want to lose the privilege of attending it.

7. Meeting the Challenges of Today's World -Elder Robert D. Hales
Just a really good talk about making decisions and always staying on the Lord's Path.

8. Behold Thy Mother -Elder Jeffery R. Holland
'So in any moment of temptation, may we "behold [our] mother" as well as our Savior and spare them both the sorrow of our sinning.'
I loved this talk because it reminded me of one of my life mottos about not tarnishing the name of anyone connected to me "I don't do anything to dishonor my family, my friends, or my God."

9. Faith is not by Chance but by Choice- Elder Neil L. Andersen
Such a good reminder that Faith needs to be nourished. We have to choose it, over and over again.

10. My Heart Pondereth Them Continually -Devin G. Durrant
Ponderize is now in everyone's vocabulary. I like that we can choose a new scripture each week to remember.

Well good luck! I hope you enjoy the talks! It was really hard to pick because I loved so many of them :) Can't wait till Conference!

10 K Views and a giveaway

Hey there my lovely readers. You guys are the greatest. I'm sure that you already knew that, but truly you are. Thank you so much for following along! I know that 10,000 views probably isn't much. In fact, I'm sure a lot of people get that many views on their blog per day but I can't tell you what it means to me that my blog hit this milestone! Thank you all so much for helping me get here!

As a reward I finally figured out how to do a giveaway. I thought about giving away a lot of different things, but ultimately I wanted it to relate back to my blog and also be something that I thought everyone might like, so today I'm giving away a gift card to Cafe Trio! It is super good. If you've been, you know what I mean! If not, this may be your chance to try it out! Just enter below! :)

Monday Moments

Hey everyone! How was your week?
I'm going to be really straight up with you all, my week was good, but I've also been sick since last Sunday.

First I had a "viral strep throat"
now I have a kidney infection.

It has been fun ha ha. The Captain has been so sweet to take care of me and get me things. Seriously he's the best.

Here's my pretty new mace, which I'm pretty sure needs a name since I carry him/her in my hand all the time now. Any suggestions?

Because sometimes you take a bazillion selfies and send them all to your husband in one message. Plus I'd actually put mascara on that day (I was amazed by how long my eye lashes have gotten. I think it's the Biotin) and I was feeling pretty. And it was our 4 month anniversary :)

We went to Cafe Trio to celebrate... and I'm going to be doing a gift card give away for Cafe Trio on Wednesday! :)

Our Dessert at Freddy's :)

My First ever "commissioned" piece of hand lettering! I'm super excited.

And some water color flower practice!

I am actually surprised at the number of pictures that I took this week considering the fact that I did almost nothing but lay in bed for most of it! Anyway, I hope you've had a great week! I'd love to hear about it! If you have any questions or comments you know where to leave them :)

Thanks for reading and be sure to come back on Wednesday for the giveaway!

40 talks challenge

Who else is excited for General Conference??? I am excited. It may be a weird thing, but one of the things that I love about getting older and time going faster is how often General Conference comes around. When I was little it always seemed like it was years between sessions (not that I was sad about that, I kind of thought that it was boring as a child…), and now it seems like we just had one when the next one comes around! 😃

Anyway, my little sister asked if I would like to do this challenge with her. You don’t have to read them in any specific order or anything. I realize that I jumped on the bandwagon late and I’m not going to get through all of them before it’s Conference again, but every one that I’ve read so far has been phenomenal. The first one listed is off on the year, it’s supposed to be 1985 not 1975.

Anyway, if you’d like to join us I’d love to hear what you think and which talks are your favorite! You can follow the link to print off a copy if you would like :)

I will be sharing my 10 talks to re-read before General Conference post next Sunday, so if this one seems a little long, you might want to join me for that one 😉 Thank you all for reading, and have a fantastic Sunday.

Writing Journal #59

I have wondered,
what would it be like?

to reach, and take, and never wonder if someone was coming after
to fill my hands and pockets with berries
let the juice seep through,
to stain my lips bright red and not care who saw

to sit beneath the waterfall,
mouth open
letting it course down into me until I was round and bursting

to use greedy hands

what would it be like
to take and take
all my days

to be full
instead of pouring out

Would I be content in my swollen skin?
Would the stretch and pull make me happy?

would the berry juice burn my tongue
would the water wash me out and leave me empty?

Thanks for reading everyone! I love to hear your comments and questions! Have a happy Thursday!
