Butler Fork Trail

As I was typing that in I realized that Trail and Trial are only one letter off from each other. Which I think most people would agree is pretty accurate.

If you don't already know, I love hiking. Or I will love it again when I'm in better shape. It's crazy how different activities can make you feel like you're a total wuss! I've been running pretty regularly but apparently my hiking is NOT up to snuff.

For Memorial Day, the Captain and I decided to go for a hike. We decided to pick a random trail since neither of us had anything in mind.
We ended up at Butler Fork Trail.

The trail itself is 3 miles in and 3 miles back, but we did not go that far. The first half mile of the trail is pretty steep so we made a new goal to make it a mile instead. If you're thinking of doing this trail, just remember that after that first half mile, it gets much easier! In fact, on the way back I kept telling people who were on their way up that it wouldn't last because it really is a beautiful trail!

You do have to cross the stream/river (I have no idea what the difference is) a few times, but luckily when we went neither of us fell in. The little stream has a lot of beautiful waterfalls and follows beside the trail almost the whole way. I'm a sucker for any kind of water feature, especially if there is no end goal for my hike. Those are the times that it needs to be pretty along the way and this trail doesn't disappoint.

Aren't you guys proud that I only put up one wildflower picture? ;)

We had to stop and rest several times on the way up, so no judgement if you have to stop a lot while hiking. It's about the joy in the journey, right? That last picture is the view from our stopping point. The Captain kept laughing because every time we stopped it was exactly .1 of a mile. Once we made our goal of a mile in, though, I was more than ready to turn around!

I'm thinking of making a bucket list of hikes for the summer. What are some of your favorite hikes?
